The photograph, the portrait

"Photo"Portrait

A work of art, not a filter

Each portrait is painted by Patrice Murciano using a graphics tablet, stroke by stroke, then printed and hand-finished in the studio in Montpellier. It is neither a retouched photograph nor a computer-generated image. It is a work drawn by the artist.

  1. 1

    I am painting

    The portrait is drawn entirely by hand, on a graphics tablet. The face, the light, the colours, the background, everything is recomposed.

  2. 2

    I'm printing

    On fine art paper or canvas, depending on what you have chosen. Every print leaves the studio and I check them one by one.

  3. 3

    I am raising

    I'm returning to hand printing, with ink on paper, and paint on canvas. Then I sign.

    Three styles, one price

    The same face, three ways to paint it. You choose when you order, and it makes no difference to the price.

    "Graffiti
    Graffiti MurcianoThe bold, spontaneous ink drawing that captures emotion in just a few strokes. A signature style that very few artists in the world know how to achieve.

    "Natural
    Natural watercolourThe right colours, the softness of watercolour, without lines or splashes. The portrait alone.

    "Painting
    Murciano-style paintingThe projected colours and the lines spinning around the face. The instantly recognisable signature.

    A face, a couple, a group, an animal

    From one to five people, including pets. A wedding, a birth, a communion, an anniversary, or simply the face of someone you love. You can even send several separate photos—the child on one and the dog or cat on the other: they will be combined into the same portrait.

    How does it work?

    1. 1

      It's up to you

      The format, the medium and the style. You pay for your order.

    2. 2

      You are sending your photos

      You immediately receive a message with a button to deposit them. One or several, as you like, with no limit on the number.

    3. 3

      Patrice is painting

      Within ten working days, he sends you the finished portrait by email. Two revisions are included if a detail bothers you, then €29 per additional change.

    4. 4

      You receive the work

      Nothing is printed until you say yes. Then the print is hand-enhanced, signed, and dispatched to your home.

      Is your photo good enough?

      Almost always. A photo taken with a phone is enough, what matters is that the face is clear. If it weren't suitable, we would tell you before starting.

      Your questions, what we are asked most

Is this computer-generated?

      No. The portrait is painted by Patrice Murciano using a graphics tablet, stroke by stroke, and then highlighted by hand. Nothing is done automatically.

</details>

Can lines and splashes be removed?

      Yes, by choosing a different style. The lines are characteristic of the Murciano style; they are what make it recognisable. If you prefer a softer look, choose the natural watercolour or the black-and-white watercolour. All three are painted and signed by the same artist.

</details>

I have a photo of my child and another of my dog or cat. Can we combine them?

      Yes, no problem at all, and it is very often requested. Send the two photos telling us who should appear, and next to whom.

</details>

I only have an old photo, a bit damaged.

      Send it anyway. An old or slightly blurry photo can make a very fine portrait, because the portrait is entirely redrawn, it is not touched up.

</details>

Will I see the portrait before printing?

      Yes, always. You will receive it by email and nothing is printed until you have given your consent.

</details>

And if I don't like a detail?

      Just say it. Two touches are included in the price: a strand of hair, a smile, a detail of clothing.

</details>

Paper, stretched canvas or framed canvas: which should you choose?

      The paper slides into the frame of your choice; this is the most flexible solution. The stretched canvas on a wooden frame arrives ready to hang, without a frame, for a more purist presence. The baroque canvas and frame give the work a real tableau-like presence. This year, the stretched canvas is hand-stretched as standard, at no additional cost: the studio is launching this new offering.

</details>

Can I hang it in direct sunlight, or put it outside?

      No, and we prefer to tell you rather than sell you something that would get damaged. Direct sunlight and humidity are suitable for neither paper nor canvas.

</details>

Can I gift a portrait without having the photo?

      Yes. Have one gift card the person will choose their own photo, style and format, whenever they want.

</details>

[cusrev_reviews_rating]
